Talk about the Plasma TVs Here!| Did you know? Playstations, plasma TVs and PCs 'burn up power' | | Games consoles such as the Sony Playstation 3 can burn up to five times more energy than a medium sized refrigerator, a Choice study has found. The consumer magazine found a Sony Playstation 3, switched on but not in use, could cost almost $250 a year in electrical bills, whereas a fridge would cost less than $50 a year.Plasma television sets were among the top energy guzzlers, consuming more than four times as much energy as a traditional analogue set.The average desktop PC, tested independently of its monitor, was third on the list of top energy consumers. However, the PC's Apple equivalent, the iMac, an all-in-one model with a built-in display, used just two-thirds of the energy consumed by a monitor-less PC.LCD computer monitors were found to use only about half as much energy as the older cathode-ray tube monitors. The study also found that devices placed on stand-by can cost just $15 a year.http://au.news.yahoo.com/080603/2/174ah.html | |

| | | A Question for the "right" side | | I have a question from the "right" side of the political spectrum. Doesn't the right mostly believe in small government with less personal invasion? Or what exactly does small government mean to you? I ask because I was reading an article that I thought must be a joke (after reading the title) and anyway it was about the governor of California wanting to ban the "energy-hogging televisions". According to the article-"It would put in place a set of energy efficiency mandates for large-screen TVs that would effectively ban the current generation of plasma TVs with screens over 40 inches. The law would require a 33 percent improvement in energy efficiency for all TVs sold starting Jan. 1, 2011, and a whopping 50 percent improvement for sets sold starting Jan. 1, 2013."So is the government telling citizens what size of television they may own small government? Or is it ok because California has energy issues?:http://www.dailyfinance.com/2009/10/26/schwarzenegger-to-television-makers-go-green-or-stay-out-of-cal/?icid=main|main|dl4|link5|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailyfinance.com%2F2009%2F10%2F26%2Fschwarzenegger-to-television-makers-go-green-or-stay-out-of-cal%2F | |
| | type of TV set | | We have two TV sets in our house. one is 29" and the other one is 21". Both are table top models only. But in the market, recently so many plasma TVs are flooding and people flock to buy it afresh or for the exchange. Even I wish to exchange our old TV for a plasma. Its sleek look and convenient way of fixing on the wall impressed me. What type of TV set do you have? | |
| | Just Why Do Rich People... | | Have weird lifestyles anyway? Late at night I usually watch this show called Cribs. It's an MTV show but on the ABC channel (channel 7 here). The whole premise of the show is to showcase three celebrities homes for each episode...their "cribs". Now some actually do have real GORGEOUS homes...uh, well not homes in the usual sense but bondfide mansions. Yet as nice as the homes themselves are the celebrities decorate their homes like crap, real tacky and with no taste for the most part, or otherwise they look like museums with a do not touch atmosphere, not lived in. OH, and almost all of the celebrities seem to have widescreen plasma TVs in their bathrooms usually overhanging their bathtub..does one REALLY take long baths to need to watch TV...like huh? The weirdest part is after the celebrity gives a tour of their home then they show off all their cars...that's plural CARS..not one, not two, but seems each celebrity has at least six cars. Like huh? And no this isn't envy or sour grapes, but even if I did have their kind of money to kick around with, like why would I want more than maybe two cars...one practical all around use... | |
| | Has anyone ever won anything from Publishers Clearing House? | | Last December, I saw a rather catchy advertisement on TV from PCH offering a $5,000 a Week for Life contest and I quickly rushed to fill out an entry form online. I knew my chances would be incomprehensibly slim, but if you don't bother to enter, you can't win, right? Anyhow it didn't cost anything to enter and it was quick, so I did. Ever since I entered, I've received two, sometimes three, e-mails a day with links to click on to submit entries for various prizes. Sometimes the entry is for the $5,000 a Week for Life prize (to be awarded 2/28/09), other times it's for other amounts of money to be awarded on certain dates ($1,500 on Halloween, $10,000 on Columbus Day, etc...), and then there's smaller prizes like movie tickets, gift cards, plasma TVs, laptops, etc... for just searching for anything on the PCH Search & Win website. For over a year now, I've clicked on a link in every e-mail and searched on the PCH Search & Win website every day. I haven't won a small, medium, large, or life-changing prize yet. I know that people do win with PCH and that every day my odds are next to nil of winning even a gift card, so I'm not surprised I'm not winning, but i'm curious to hear if... | |
